Places to Find Design Resources and Assets

Sometimes as designers, we will spend hours looking for the right resources and assets to make a design look flawless or improve our workflow. I’ve compiled a list of all of the best resources so that maybe you won’t have to spend as much time looking. I’m always looking for more, so please let me know what you would add!

Wordmark.it

Wordmark.it is one of those sites that I found really useful after I had my computer for a few years. After a certain amount of time, I had accumulated so many different fonts that I couldn’t sort through them in any of the Adobe apps alone. This site lets you input a word or phrase, and it will show that phrase to you using every font on your computer! It’s an easy way to visualize what you already have in an organized way. (I’m a clean freak)

Unsplash

There’s a good chance that you’ve heard of this resource already. Unsplash is one of the most popular sites for free stock photography. The content is such high quality and the creators are very reputable. You’ll find photos for almost any occasion, and you won’t be disappointed.

Instavast Hashtag Generator

Ever get stuck on ideas for a hashtag? Instavast generates popular and relevant hashtags in different ways. You can input a word, submit the link to your post, or upload an image. You can check however many hashtags you like, and copy them all to use in a post. It has been really helpful to me as a social media manager. I’ve heard there are social media scheduling tools that also generate hashtags for you. I’ll have to try those out and post an update.

Meet the Ipsums

When you are creating a website or layout, how do you generate your placeholder text? There are a lot of ways to create your Lorem Ipsum, but “Meet the Ipsums” is a fun and unique take on doing so. You’ll find copy that talks about cats, technology, coffee and more. This can sometimes get confusing for customers that don’t understand what Lorem Ipsum is, but assure them that it is just placeholder text and they will get a laugh out of it. Even for personal projects, these quirky paragraphs can lighten up any situation.

Desinion

If you are having a hard time deciding between two versions of a design, (font choice, color combination, etc) upload it to the Desinion site. This allows users to vote for their favorite option and leave valuable feedback. As a voter, this is a great site to kill time on and to compare your opinion to other designers.

Creative Market

Creative Market is the Amazon of illustrations, templates, and typefaces. If you need an asset to fill the need of a skill you may not have, this is the place to find it. The best part is that every week they offer 6 assets free to download. I signed up for their email list just to get notified of what the free weekly resources are!

Brands of the World

There have been many times in the last few years that I have needed social media logos to place on websites and print design. With this website, you can search for logos from popular companies and download .eps files to use after agreeing to only use the logo in appropriate ways. This is a good resource to have, but does rely on the honesty of the user. Always make sure you are downloading the latest version of the logo, and following the rules of each company’s brand guidelines.

Forms App by Legal Shield

Running a design business or working as a freelance artist can be extremely difficult when it comes to legal agreements. There are many legal documents online, but many of them are hard to understand. This app helps you create documents and teaches you what kind of documents to use for different situations. Contracts not only make you look more professional, they protect you and your business from getting hurt.

Did I miss anything? Please feel free to message me and let me know what to add! Let’s keep this list growing.

*I have no affiliation with these companies, and receive no monetary compensation. I just want to send out some love and pass on what I’ve learned!
